    Counter UAS

I agree, if you let a Group 1 UAS find your main effort you've screwed up. NATO UAS doctrine for Group 1 UAS seems to focus on "looking over the next hill" so you don't have to poke your head out. This is also why I shake my head a bit in the Naval environment when people scream about drone...

    Counter UAS

Russian EW assets can/have provide(d) directed Electronic jamming to the point where many Ukrainian drones just fall out of the sky. That's been observed since 2014, but they are in limited numbers. Similarly EW onboard ships (heck some FC Radars) can jam up and disrupt these small drones...

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

I'm not proposing a solution for SHORAD for Canada. That's another thread, and specifically, a proper SHORAD needs to be integrated together with sensors and effectors. What I'm proposing is that IFV may not be properly armed across the entire spectrum of IFV's. If IFV's can use their weapons...

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

Best way for cannon-based AA is to use a backup proximity fuse. The primary method should be a calculated (timed) pattern of detonations based on fire control solution of the target's movement, creating a larger cloud of shrapnel that the target flies into/can't avoid. AHEAD is just the...

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

I was thinking of this as an option, but I'm not entirely sure that it would still be able to carry the same number of troops in the back. This is a pretty dedicated GBAD vehicle and not so much the IFV vehicle I was thinking about. But its right down the alley.

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

Even the Russians have powerful directed EW for UAV's, however something like the CV90 40mm bofors would be a good start, even with EOIR air search/ targeting capability. That's enough for mini UAV's which would easily be in range of such a weapon (30-35mm have good fragmentation options as...

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

Never said you wouldn't. But that doesn't have to be an organic sensor to a LAV company, that could be a higher level sensor.

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

Taking this another step, (and copying the Namor HAPC) an integral indirect fire capability like a mortar might be more useful (or a switchblade launching system for example) instead of an autocannon. Either to lay down smoke, illumination or fires on an enemy position in support of the...

Fincantieri Lays Keel Of Qatar’s Air Defense LPD

In the Italian context (and Algerian for that matter) it kinda makes sense. A destroyer-sized ship that can launch multiple helicopters and small landing craft. Given the Mediterranean, this would be a really useful ship for marine commando's or evacuation purposes. Not sure why Quatar wants...

"Chariots on Fire" - IFV SOPs

Some thread necromancy in light of further lessons learned in Ukraine and the Armenian/Azerbijhan conflict. The original discussion revolved around the proper use of LAV's in an environment that has a proliferation of ATGM. Essentially using them as direct fire support for an infantry advance...

Shouldn't that be 2SSR? Just rolls off the tongue better.

    Carl G

Seems like its a tighter range band than some of the other Carl G rounds. Which would make sense if you are using that round in urban combat. Might just be the angle on the camera though.

    MARS being renamed?

Lol, like the army didn't invent this sort of thing. Jump wings, pathfinder, special operations qualification. BWK is a qualification that anyone in the CAF could get if they were allowed the opportunity, though it is required by NWOs as part of their career progression their OFP is based on...

    MARS being renamed?

Huh. I guess I have to add another 5 min for transferring random bling between my 3B shirts. It will be a wonder if they hold out with all the holes that are going to go into them. @FSTO seeing the new image up close I agree that the "waves" could have been done better. Not super happy about...

    MARS being renamed?

Is that ticketed or passing your Board? Because I have my ticket as a PRes on a MCDV. I never did the NOPQ board because we didn't do that as PRes. Also here is your image you posted earlier that has a much better view of the badge.

    MARS being renamed?

Are there different colours? I'm assuming there are. What qualification levels do they represent? And when do I get my cool bling to represent that I'm CSE. And since I used to be MARS do I get one retroactively? Because I want a nipple pocket moustache as well.

No! It still has a maple leaf on it. FFS!

    MARS being renamed?

Cannons or something... or an angry chinook salmon (wearing a crown).

    MARS being renamed?

What I will say about the pin is why TF do we have to slap a friggin maple leaf on every single god damned badge/patch etc... Have enough confidence in ourselves to stop labeling everything as Canadian. I know its a great brand that leaf, but it's a terrible reflex. I would agree with that.
