Usable skills ?
« on: August 09, 2003, 19:18:00 »
Here‘s a question...would I be able to use my commercial diving experience in the Army at all? It has included plenty of subsea construction / inspection etc, as well as all that oilfield stuff, and No, I don‘t want to be in the Navy, thanks (before anyone suggests it)...I also work as an industrial climber, so with all the rigging exp etc, maybe the Engineers ?? Anyway, thought I would ask...cheers

Choose what you‘d enjoy most, but I would recommend:

Combat Engineer (043), a combat arms trade in which your rigging experience would be applied -- and diving experience, especially if you were able to become Combat Diver qualified.

Line Technician (052), a combat arms trade in which only your climbing and rigging experience would be a factor.  You could expect to climb antenna towers of 400+ ft in height, and poles of 30 to 90 ft in height.  You may only spend a small percentage of your career actually climbing anything -- as linemen work in a few places other than pole-lines, and antenna farms.

Cheers.
