From MERX:
Quote
.... DND's Project Polar Epsilon has been established to exploit information obtained from existing or emerging civil and/or commercial satellites, primarily RADARSAT-2. It will support Canadian DEFENCE by providing wide area surveillance over the ocean approaches to Canada, over Canada's Arctic region, and in foreign littoral areas where Canadian forces may be deployed.

DND has a requirement for the provision of Non Proprietary Maintenance Services for DND's (Near Real Time Ship Detection) System ....

1)  Following up on this ....
From MERX:
Quote
.... DND, Mercury Global Project, is seeking feedback from industry, and in particular, satellite terminal providers, ground station operators and system integrators with respect to the commercial sector's ability to address DND's satellite ground infrastructure needs for access to the US Department of Defense WGS constellation ....
A bit more from a previous MERX posting here, from bid document extracts (18 pages, Google Docs) here, and from the U.S. government's Info-machine on Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) here.
.... we now see this (highlights mine):
Quote
.... The objectives of the Mercury Global project are:

a) Deliver strategic X-band and Ka-band SATCOM ground entry sites that are interoperable with deployed terminals fielded by all environmental force generators. These ground entry sites will enable connectivity to global theatres and must be located within Canadian territory where feasible; and

b) Deliver CF SATCOM Control Centre(s) (CFSCC) required to manage and to control satellite access, and link circuit and network operation for the DND ground terminal population as fielded to meet the current and forecasted IERs to FY 24/25. The CFSCC must support identified critical services under conditions of system stress caused by partial failure or electronic warfare.

The Contractor must provide professional services on an "as and when requested" basis to support the systems and equipment as described above.

Professional services are required to provide inputs into varying tasks associated with the options analysis, definition phase, and implementation phase of the project in order to define the project deliverables
....
A bit more information in the Statement of Work (8 pages) via Google Docs here.

Wanted:
More from The Canadian Press:
Quote
The federal government is looking to finish a survey of an underwater shipwreck littered with tonnes of munitions just outside of Halifax.

Defence Construction Canada, a Crown corporation that serves the Defence Department, has issued a tender for a contractor to complete the survey in an area south of the city that's popular with recreational divers.

The project, which is estimated to cost $310,050, is listed in a notice recently posted on a website that advertises government contracts.

The SS City of Vienna narrowly missed the entrance to the Halifax harbour on July 2, 1918, and was wrecked on rocky shoals near Sambro Island. The ship's crew made it off safely with some of the cargo, but during a gale two months later the boat sank into deeper water ....
